2010 NYS Fair

The Great New York State Fair. A twelve day festival that drags people from all over the state and country out to show off their talents, horticulture skills, and prized live stock. This year over 1 million attended.

The NYS fair has also been known to batter and fry just about anything that's edibble. This year I over heard a family gourging themselves with deep fried pop tarts. (right I already know what your thinking). But while your eating your deep fried twinkies and Cheesecake on a stick, at least you get a free show.

I'd like to think that not all of the crazies are Syracuse breed. But I know that's a false hope. I wanted to post a picture of one example of the summer fashions spotted on this year's Midway, yay for you if it shows on your pr.

The Midway for those who've never been is about a mile strip filled with food and game vendors, as well as your basic carnival rides.

The NYS Fair also has a few exhibits that everyone flocks to see every year. The Sand Sculpture and the Butter Sculpture. (They are exactly what they sound like)... The sand sculpture's theme this year was the Beatles.

The infamous Beer garden and wine Court! So this year we took a little tour of the local wineries... and fell in love with this Blue Diamond wine slush... But here's the thing: after drinking this amazing flavor of wine slush, we find out that the only reason it's so good is because its NOT WINE SLUSH. It's a little bit of wine mixed with SODA and SUGAR- a lot of SUGAR. Totally bamboozled. Clearly I need to sharpen my wine tasting skills. But although it was a grown up Slush puppie, it was good. Please Wine Court be more clear in your advertisement!

Above is Pizza and her beau, filling their tin with root beer. The root beer was exceptionally cold, i'll give them that, BUT it was not root beer. (or cream soda) It was a lightly carbonated water with a brownish tint and a cream soda aroma. FYI Root Beer Barrel stand, if your gonna do just one thing please make sure you do it WELL.
Okay sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable ordering this delicious pita sandwhich. Mostly because everyone in line is calling it something different, and the people behind the counter have this "Dumb american " look on his or her face. But I did some research guys and from what "they" say: Yeer-oh is the correct pronuciation. Kind of like Hero. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/443408http://. But anyway this is probably the best stand at the fair. (It's right near the kiddie rides, not to be confuse with the one NOT BY THE KIDDIE RIDES)

I know you wana bite!

^This is Josh. He runs the Fresh Fried Vegetables stand. As you can see it's there job to make your 8-a-day go down a little greasie. This stand is also the ones that made fried pickles so poplular. (well you know, them and Snookie) Josh was great he made sure that every customer got exactly what they paid for extremely fresh hot crispy fried Veggies. Another thing that makes them different from the other vendors that claim to do the same thing is that they don't pull out pre frozen or pre battered produce from a cooler. Every customer saw their order prepared custom for them. This also ment that you had to wait a little while for it to be done, about 5-10 min. But good food takes time.

The pickle was everything you could ask for: Crispy, crunchy, salty, vinegary, hot, and seasoned. ( i realise i made up some words there) For $6 you got between 6-8 spears, but i could only eat one. It also comes with a Ranch Dipping sauce, but I despise Ranch so...

One additional not of caution: beware of the scaulding hot pickle juice that will come running out...i wasn't prepared.

^ Paco's Taco- Cheep Eats 3 Tacos-$5

^ fried Dough: If lower left is chocolate than what is the lower right (hmmmm)^

So these are two famous spots that started out here in Syracuse... If your ever in town, make sure you check them out for great food and live local music.

Chocolate covered frozen Banana covered in nuts... word to the wise, don't get it plain...Melonie!

Can you guess what that next picture is? FRIED OREO...Try it before you knock it. I'm telling you i don't even like oreos that much but this fried oreo, left me speachless. If I had to describe it I'd say: the texture of an oreo after being soaked in milk, but hot and stuffed inside a thin fried dough...(wipe your mouth, your drooling a little bit)

There goes Pizza again drinking her "Fresh from the teet" chocolate milk from the Rainbow Milk Bar, each one of those cups is 25 cents. And right next to her is the Butter Sculpture i was telling you about earlier. I forgot the stats so lets just say its A LOT of butter, which all gets donated to food pantries after the fair i believe. Well if this sculpture impresses you, it shouldn't last year they had life size people. This year was pretty mediocre, but hey its made outta BUTTER!

That pretty much wrapps up the 2010 NYS Fair except to mention that if you missed it you also miss the free concerts of:

Keith Sweat, Envouge, 30 seconds to Mars, Lady Antebellum and much much more.
